Description
The Mikrogen recomWell hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a qualitative, in vitro test for the detection and identification of IgG antibodies specifically against HEV in human serum. This assay is a screening test based on the principle of an indirect sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
What is hepatitis E IgG?
Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) Antibodies (IgG, IgM) – Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the major etiologic agent of enterically transmiited non-A, non-B hepatitis worldwide and has a high case-fatality rate in pregnant women. Both IgM and IgG antibody to HEV (anti-HEV) are produced following infection.
What is anti-HEV IgG test?
In summary, IgG anti-HEV is a good diagnostic test for screening for AHE in nonendemic areas. The high rate of prevalence of anti-HEV in healthy subjects indicates that subclinical infection may exist.
Is hepatitis E Serious?
How serious is hepatitis E? Most people with hepatitis E recover completely. During hepatitis E outbreaks, the overall case-fatality rate is about 1% (10). However, for pregnant women, hepatitis E can be a serious illness, with mortality reaching 10%–30% among pregnant women in their third trimester (11).
What does anti HAV IgG positive mean?
The presence of anti-HAV (IgG or IgM) in human serum or plasma is indicative of past or present infection with hepatitis A virus (HAV) or vaccination against HAV. The test for total anti-HAV is primarily used to determine exposure to HAV either naturally or due to vaccination.
